Catch, turn and pass relay

Players work in groups of 4, with 1 ball between them. The first player runs towards the centre The player with the ball throw up a high ball for the receiving player to jump and receive. The receiving player catches the ball, and turns in the air, so they land facing the opposite direction to the player who passed to them (turning 180 degrees). The receiving player then passes the ball, and follows their pass. Drill continues.

Group practices

Channels to Feed the Circle

Set up: Shooting circle, 4-7 players, 1 ball, cones. Divide three channels across the court (you can refer to these as channel 1, 2 or 3 or first, second, economy class). Use cones to determine channels for players that are learning the areas. One channel in front of center transverse line (center pass area). Another channel between transverse line and top of circle. Final channel is from top of the circle to baseline (shooting area). Center feeder to pass ball to first attacker who will drive from WA position to middle of the first channel. Attacker to turn and pass to second receiver who will drive circle edge and pass the ball into the shooter. Shooter to shoot.

Movement

Down court progressions

Full team lined up down the length of the court about 2 metres off the midline. 1.Ball starts down one end of the court. Players are to drive straight to reci 2. Players are to make a movement (i.e. dodge) before receiving the ball in the middle of the court. Players to turn and pass down the court. 2. Players make a movement before driving into the middle of the court. 3. First player in the line 'clears out', second player drives foward to receive the pass. Pass is given to the player who has peeled out and so on down the court.

Attack

Give and Go in pairs

Players work in groups of 4, with two feeders, two balls and two workers. The workers receive the ball from the feeder opposite them and return the pass They then accelerate quickly to receive from the other feeder Drill should be continuous.

Passing

Give and Go in the square

Players stand on a corner of the square to begin with, one player has the ball in hand. The player with the ball passes the ball anti-clockwise to the player on the next cone nearest them They then follow their pass, running all the way out to the cone and back The next player repeats this (pass, run out touch next cone and run back) Drill should be continuous. This practice is excellent for teaching players to catch on the move, turn and pass.

Set up: Players get into partners. One ball between two. A wall. Attackers to be standing in front of a wall. Feeders to have the ball and set up at varying distances away from their attacker. Attackers start with 'fast feet' and on coaches command they drive towards the feeder and receive the ball in the air. Attacker to send the ball they received to the wall and follow with a drive to receive the rebound. Attacker to turn and pass a long ball back to the feeder.

4 players lined up width wise (equal distance) 1 player starts by throwing the ball into the wall and catching the return to then turn and pass the ball to the next player in line all the way to the other side via every player. Every player should try to run into the space to receive the ball. When the ball gets to the end the exercise repeats in the opposite direction.

3-5 players, 1 ball, 1/2 court space.1 player, the feeder stands on the third line with the ball.The other two players (workers) stand about 3 metres away facing away from the feeder.The workers jog away from the feeder. When the feeder calls "turn" or "go" both workers turn and drive towards the ball in anticipation to catch the pass. The feeder can choose either players to pass the ball to.This can be set up with two sets of workers and the feeder can alternate between each set of partners.

Working in threes with 1 ball per group. The 1st player has their back to the others throws the ball up and over their head, turns and catches the ball before then passing to the centre player. The centre player receives, rotates and releases (3 Rs) to the next player. The third player then receives the ball and rotates before restarting the drill from the other side.

Players line up in 2 lines facing each other. Blue player 1 throws to Blue player 3 who runs forwards to meet the pass. Blue player 3 turns and passes to Blue player 4, and then runs on to join the line behind Blue player 2. Blue player 4 then throws to Blue player 1 who runs forwards to meet pass, Blue player 1 turns and passes to Blue player 2. Blue player 1 then runs behind Blue player 4 etc. Drill continues...

Split the group into 3s.1 Ball per group.Blue 1 runs between white 1 and 2 to receive the ball. They jump, land and turn and then feed on to white 2.<BR> After 10 passes rotate.<br>Repeat, receiving on the other side.<br><b>Progression</b><br>Blue 1 turns in the air before landing.

Players are working in threes with 1 ball per group, using the wall. Standing 2 metres away from the wall the 1st player throws a strong pass against the wall (flat and fast), drives to the ball and meets it in the air -receiving rotating and releasing (3Rs) to the next player for them to do the same.

The blue players both throw the ball to the Red players who in turn return the ball.<br /><br /> After returning the ball the red players swap places.<br /><br /> Repeat once more. Players work in pairs with 1 ball, standing 2 metres apart. The worker drives forward and touches the ball in feeder's hand. They then angle their body to the right and move back 3-4 steps. The feeder places the ball on the worker's right hand side. The worker retrieves the ball and is then passed back to feeder.

Split into pairs with 1 ball per pair.Worker (white 1) moves forward to receive a short pass and returns the ball. Worker then moves back to receive a high pass, leading with one shoulder and returns the ball to the feeder, repeat. The practice must be repeated leading with both the right and left shoulders so the high ball is received on both sides.

Players stand in 2 lines, with a feeder in front of each line. Players pass the ball out to their feeder and then swap sides (going in front or behind the other passing player) to receive the return pass from the other feeder. Players receive the pass from the feeder and then pass to the next players for them to go again.

Two Players, One ball. The receiver Stands on the center cone, facing AWAY from the feeder. The feeder, standing three meters away from their partner is standing in a forward stance, ready to pass the ball. The feeder will give a command, directing the receiver the either stay, run left or run right. Depending on the command, the receiver must make a quick and decisive 180 degree turn to face their partner before then driving to receive and return the pass from where they have been directed to by their partner. This drill will ensure your players drive onto the ball and don't dawdle.

Partner runs, leaps and snatches the ball, lands with the correct footwork, Once theabove is achieved with balance, add a turn once the player has landed so player is facing the same way she has come from and returns the ball to partner. Once the ball has been snatched, the statue could sprint to another point to receive the ball before the exercise is repeated.<BR> Progress this practice through all 3 stages until all players are balanced

Players take it in turns to run through the defender's areas as pairs. The player without the ball leads into the space. Working together they should try to pass and move, maintaining possession of the ball, from one side to the other. If players successfully pass and support each other to the other side without losing the ball they pass the ball to the next pair and then join the back of the queue. If the ball is intercepted though the pair who lost the ball become the defenders and the original defenders take the runner's place at the back of the queue.

Individually, run into a space. On the whistle jump into the air, landing right or left.<br />Turn on first landing foot, point other foot into new space and run into it.<br />Same can be done with a ball. On the whistle, throw ball in the air, jump, catch, land and pivot.

How do you get the shooters to passI have a 9 year old team and the shooter will not pass the ball and thinks that scoring the goals is important instead of playing as a team and getting closer to circle.

Where GA,WA,WD & GD allowed when centre pass is being taken?

I am Father coaching my Daughters Netball Team & I wanted to use a different set up when Taking the Centre Pass to Start ,so I need to know where the GA,WA,WD & GD are allowed to stand when a Centre pass is being taken?DO they need to stand at the line as normal or can I change it up a bit?-Say one player up at line in the very centre of line and one player standing or running around behind in the centre of their Third?? Does anyone have suggestions to teach my girls to break free?

They are such a good team (under 12's), with so much potential, but we struggle against the top 2 teams as their defense is amazing and my girls struggle to get free, which then really disheartens them. I'm a first time coach, so its still a learning experience for me.

Passing, defending, getting free

I'm coaching u/10's and have an excellent A team, but the B team have learners who haven't been playing netball so long. Does anyone have one or two basic activities, easy to understand (for them) which I can drill them with for passing, defending and getting free, as well as something for the shooters. They are always all over the place (we do practice channels) and really struggle to get free - they run a bit and then just stop to wait for the ball. Anything, even just some advice would be appreciated! :)

Intercept / turnover

Hi, a netball mum newbie here. I was wondering what the difference is between an intercept and a turnover. It seems to me that an intercept is the same as a turnover (you intercept the ball and "turn over the centre-pass" so to speak). But there must be a distinction because I see the two terms used separately when they show the statistics during the ANZ Championship games. I'd love it if someone could explain it to me.
