I have thoroughly enjoyed using your site to help me with my coaching plans for my under 9's netball team.
How often would you put a fitness circuit into netball training, and what key exercise could you suggest?
Defending the Throw In. On the weekend, the opposition had a set play (on some occasions but not all the time). GK was throwing in. The GD, WD & C all gathered between the centre and the 1/3rd line, closer to the 1/3rd line. Each of them broke at different times. 1st GD leading left, then WD leding right and C down the middle. This week if they do that again, I think I will not have my GA/WA/C next to the girls, but 4-6 ft in front of them waiting for the leads on the angle to watch the leads and the throw in. Any other suggestions? we play that team again this week!!
Looking for drills to develop 'aggression' in players when there is a loose ball - ie. to 'want/own' that ball.
We recently chose the teams for netball at my school, i tried out for the junior pro team because everyone as in my team players say i'm good and that i will get in. But I did not get in i didn't get in the a's either im in the b's. I have the speed, i can shoot sometimes and I have really good defence. What am I doing wrong. netball is my life and I really want to get on the pro team because its the best and they travel to play netball and they play a lot of games which i love. Also after every game my right ankle aches and evrypart of my body aches, stretching doesn't help me what else should i do? Please help me find maybe what im doing wrong that the judges can see.
Should a goalkeeper, slow on her feet and reaction time, focus on defending her opposing shooter or watch the ball for an intercept. She is having difficulty doing both at the same time. She is playing in a 9A competition and is playing goalkeeper mainly due to her size? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
Can a Defender hold up another defender? appearently one of my under 15's had seen it during a game
I coach U11's who seem to expect the ball to fall into their hands rather than jump for it. No matter how much I teach them, they simply don't jump!
I play school and state netball as a GK/GD, when my other player is defending the GS or GA, I hold on to her defenders leg/hand for an extra lean. Because I'm quite larger and taller than most girls and already have a pretty good lean, when I ask my defender to hold me so that i am closer to deflecting the shot, she uses two of her hands and her body strength to hold me. My coach told me not to do this because she believed I wasn't allowing myself nor my other player to get an intercept or rebound, even though we had gotten most rebounds and had gotten a few intercepts with this technique. Is this an disadvantage or advantage to us?
I am new to coaching this year and have a couple of girls who struggle to catch the ball despite 3 yrs of playing. One is quite scared and the other does not have good gross motor skills. Any suggestions on drills or games to improve these?
One of the girls on my U13's team knows how to run, pass, intercept and get free during training however in a game she dulls all of her skills down and doesn't do anything? She will literally stand still in her position and occasionally have an extreme delayed reaction to defend a ball. Any ideas on how to motivate her nicely in a game?
I am looking for pre game drill ideas. in half a hour we warm up with dynamic stretching. Ball handling/passing then 2 or 3 team drills. What drills do you recommend for adult top level drills?
I had a netball game on Saturday and i slept around 10 pm the night before. When I woke up i felt sleepy, and not energized. I think i was slow on my feet when it came to the game. I did not play at my usual level of performance. can lack of sleep affect performance in netball? should i sleep earlier next time? BTW, my game was at 8:30 am so I had to wake up at 6 am.thanks.
What would be a good drill to run based upon reaction time and work towards using full eye vision of what is around you?
what is the appropriate reaction time for a person when playing netball.
what are some coaching tips for this warm up game

Hi everyone, I have a few girls in a pretty strong under 13 team who start dropping balls when the pace gets fast and furious. The main issue seems to be trying to turn and look to where they are going to pass before they've got their hands firmly on the ball. Anyway have worked on drills that slow things down but this seems to go by the wayside as soon as their is another fast and furious game. Anyone got any thoughts? thanks Rebecca
