Attacking Centre Pass

GA and WA start on the line squeezing their defenders into the middle. This opens up space to run into Has to be two options therefore both players have to sprint off the line on the whistle. Suggestion for player order could be WA – C— GA – GS

Attack

Cover Defence: Ball and Hole Game

Two defenders work inside a circle of players with one ball. The red players must pass the ball around the group and try to keep possession. The two defending players must work together to mark the ball, keeping the 3ft distance, while the other defenders 'zones' the space. So, if Red 1 receives the ball, Green 1 (the nearest defender) calls "ball" and goes to cover the ball and Green 2 moves back, calls "hole" and zones the area.

Three feeders stand on a line and start with two balls, opposite the worker. The feeders take it in turns to pass to the worker who must return the pass to the player without the ball (not the same person who passed to you).

Pick the Right Option

In this exercise you have two feeders and then three attackers against two defenders. The first feeder (player x) starts the drill with a pass to white player 1. White player 1 has to pivot and then try and pick out the unmarked player. The defenders have to pick up one white player each and make the interception if the ball is passed to the player they've picked up.

Run and pass - Two options

The attackers need to sprint and change direction. 6 players stand Indian file.  The player with the ball faces the line. The first player leads in one direction, 2nd player immediately runs in the opposite direction.  One player receives the ball with the other one doubling back to receive the next pass. After both runners have received the ball they should pass back to the thrower. Repeat with two new attackers.

WA and GA line up in the middle slightly off-line behind each other On the whistle both players split to receive the ball. WA drives one way, GA drives the other way to create a second option C - WA - C - GS

Example GD clears and runs in a crest WD moves to receives ball from GK and passes the ball to GD GD then passes the ball to C The Centre should take up a position just over the transverse line in the centre third. This will prevent congestion in the goal third and give the WD and GD space to bring the ball through and consequently the ball carrier has an option of a team-mate ready to receive ball further up the court. The WD and GD are set up as shown. One of these players will cut across the other (taking her opponent with her). This creates space for the other player to drive into with the opponents chasing. The player who drives across (this is called clearing out) continues to run in a crest shape and offers for the next pass. The subsequent pass may well go to the Centre and by now the ball should be 2/3rd up the court in 3 passes. If the timing is correct the ball should travel up the court in a straight line. The team has successfully converted good defence work into an exciting attack.

Divide your group into three equal groups. Play starts with the ball at the bottom end of the triangle, while the two players at the other end will come forward ready to offer to receive a pass. Once the ball is passed, the player who didn't receive the ball should drive to be in space to receive another pass. Finally the player who started with the ball needs to make a move to receive the pass. Once all three players have received the ball the ball is passes to the next group of players, ready for the drill to start again. This drill is ideal for teaching players to offer a passing option to their team-mates.

The three attackers attempt to keep the ball between them, driving after they pass to move and be available for the return pass. Play starts with the ball at the bottom end of the triangle, while the two players at the other end will come forward ready to offer to receive a pass. Once the ball is passed, the player who didn't receive the ball should drive to be in space to receive another pass. Finally the player who started with the ball needs to make a move to receive the pass. Once all three players have received the ball the ball is passes to the next group of players, ready for the drill to start again. This drill is ideal for teaching players to offer a passing option to their team-mates.

Simple jogging x 4 lengths Jog backwards x 2 lengths Switch jogging, switching between forward & sideways facing x 2 lengths Jog, grapevine technique x 2 lengths Jog, Zig-zag running - two steps right, two steps left x 2 lengths Static squats - keep heels on ground, knees over feet x 10 on each leg Static toe rolls - Up onto toes, rock back onto heels x 20 Zig zag at a faster pace - cut out the squeaky shoe noise, so running and not sliding x 2 lengths Slow walking lunges - 5 to the right, 5 to the left - Head up, keep steady, keep in line, back straight Static side lunges - 5 to the right, 5 to the left - feet parallel

Short Long Square Movement - N...

8+ players in 2 lines facing opposite eachother at diagonal points of a rectangle. One player at the start of one line with the ball. Player at the front of the other line drives to the space opposite the player with the ball and recieves the long pass. They then pass back to the line they came from with the short pass and join the back of that line.Same thing happens from the opposite line.As the coach calls "short" or "long" the rectangle to get larger or smaller.

Have 2 defenders, who take it in turns to mark a play.If the defender is drawn to A1s run then A2 can pass back to the next person in the A1 line which gives the A1 in play the option to open out to receive the ball.A1 has the options again to play to A2 who has run in or straight to A3.

A game using the full court, 4 attackers, 4 defenders, 2 trailers.Split the court in half, 2 attackers, 2 defenders in each half. Both trailers in one half with attacking players &quot;1&quot;.Attackers are aiming to move the ball from one end of court to halfway (and then on to the other end of court)10 reps, keeping score (this can be reduced if you have a bigger squad). Rules:Defenders are fixed to their attackers up to halfway2 original trailers are fixed to their halfA1s can go anywhere. As they cross the halfway line they become trailers for the other attackers.<em>(You can separate the court and just have the halfway aim for each side if players at one end are not getting the opportunity to be as active)</em>

Intercept the Compass Warm ups...

Set up 4 feeders in Compass positions (North, South, East, West), with 2 defenders standing behind the W feeder and to the side. The E feeder begins the drills by passing to either the N or S feeder. Whichever N or S feeder has the ball then passes to the W feeder and the Defenders can go for the intercept. If the defenders go too early then the N/S feeder with the ball has the option to pass opposite instead and the other N/S feeder will play the ball to the W feeder. The W feeder only ever plays the ball to the E feeder. The W feeder also has a ball at the start and after the E feeder has released their ball then the W feeder passes their ball to the E feeder so that there are 2 balls in play.

Player 4 marks player 3 while aiming to intercept the pass between the two blue players (feeders). If Player 4 makes their move too soon the feeders should try to play the ball over the defender's head to player 3.

What is the best way for GK throwing in to GD from the goal line.  I find GD ends up receiving a pass just a short distance from the GK. When we could make so much more of the space.  but I can't seem to stop her running straight at the GK. Thanks AP
