Follow Ball - Part 1

Split players into groups of 7/8 with 1 ball. Players stand into 2 lines facing each other with 1 feeder in the middle on their own at an angle. Player 1 starts with ball, throws to 'Feeder' who sprints forward to recieve the ball on the cone The receiver lands on 1 and releases the ball on 2 to the player waiting at the opposite queue. The receiving player then joins the opposite queue. The player at the front now with the ball repeats the process.

Movement

Free to catch

Players stay in groups of 3 with 1 ball.2 players stand in the grid and 1 player outside with the ball. The players inside the grid alternate to get free from each other to receive the ball from the player on the outside. Set an allotted period of time for players to complete the pass (ticking clock).

Shooter Shuttles

Set up: Split players into runners and shooters - no more than 4 shooters at one time who start in the shooting circle, each with a ball. The runners line up on the middle transverse line facing the shooters. The Aim: Shooters need to score 50 goals before the runners finish their shuttles. They can shoot from anywhere in the circle and must keep count themselves. The runners must complete 20 lengths of the two thirds before the shooters score their 50 goals. Each time the runners touch an end line that counts as 1 shuttle run. When both groups have finished change the 4 shooters this means some players will be running again which is good for their fitness and all players will run twice. You could allow them to complete 15 shuttles if they are struggling.

Street Ball

Split your players into 2 equal team (1 team in bibs) and use the whole court. Rules of Street Ball: All players can go anywhere (no positional restrictions) Players score a point by touching the ball down on the opponents goal line (court backline) First team to score 10 points wins Netball rules apply - no moving with the ball, defenders must be 1 metre away and no holding of the ball longer than 3 seconds

Example GD clears and runs in a crest WD moves to receives ball from GK and passes the ball to GD GD then passes the ball to C The Centre should take up a position just over the transverse line in the centre third. This will prevent congestion in the goal third and give the WD and GD space to bring the ball through and consequently the ball carrier has an option of a team-mate ready to receive ball further up the court. The WD and GD are set up as shown. One of these players will cut across the other (taking her opponent with her). This creates space for the other player to drive into with the opponents chasing. The player who drives across (this is called clearing out) continues to run in a crest shape and offers for the next pass. The subsequent pass may well go to the Centre and by now the ball should be 2/3rd up the court in 3 passes. If the timing is correct the ball should travel up the court in a straight line. The team has successfully converted good defence work into an exciting attack.

There should always be a back-up offer from the player who has just received the ball, as well as a minimum of two offers from down the court. Players should aim to time their movement so they are reading off each other.

Turn and Pass

Players work with one ball in pairs inside a square area. The player without a ball (Red 1) sprints across the box to receive the ball on the other side. Player 1 then turns as they receive the pass. Red 2 then runs across to receive ball on the other side etc. Make sure players are balanced and are in control before they make the next pass. The worker must not move across the square until the feeder is ready to release the ball.

The decoy player then cuts back and receives a ball on the circle edge.

How do you stop crowding

My friend coaches an under 13s team and when someone has the ball they all run for it like seagulls going for bread. The coach has told them many times to spread out and for not everyone to run to the ball at once but the girls keep doing it and they can't get the ball down the court.

Hi, Wondering if any one can clarify the ruling for shooting partners screening in the goal circle? Our GA has screened effectively so far this season but was pulled by the umpire today when screening the GS? She hadn't contacted either defender, and was at 90cm distance, so we were left a little confused?? Is there a set distance they need to be away from their shooting partner?? Crowding GA WA in the transition

Hi guysSo I’m having a isssue with my GA and WA coming up way too high on our GK transitions. I keep telling the girls that they can’t cross that transvers line so soon, let your teammates GK, GD, WD & C bring the ball down as your making there space crowded and making it a lot harder to for GA to get in the shooting circle. Trying to stay a positive coac...

I am coaching 10 & 11yr old girls for the 2nd year purely because no one else wanted to do it - I've never even played netball and this site helps me every week, invaluable and we see tangible results. 1st year we won comp and championship, this year came 2nd in comp, champ starts this Sat. Two of the girls have told me their mums are changing them from this school team to another club (the one that won) next year 'cause "the coaching's not good enough for their child". All this teaches their child is that if your team isn't winning, go to another - forget about loyalty. Sometimes it difficult to take this on the chin. Any advice?
