Long term player struggling at...

Within our team we have a player that has been in the team from 9/un. We now play open age 15/un and it is way above her skills and abilities. She has difficulty with training and is guaranteed to to cry at most sessions. I have spoken to her mother to encourage her to try and I have spoken to the player. I have asked her if she is happy within the team etc also asked why she plays and what she gets out of it. She always answer that she doesnt know but she is happy. The competition and team mates are way above her abilities - what to do? Suggestions would be much appreciated.

9 players - 4 girls off half a game each week or 2?

9 players - 4 girls off half a game each week or 2 players off per quarter? I coach a 10 yrs team in a very close A grade competition. There are 9 players therefore 2 reserves are needed each quarter. Is it best to have 4 girls off for half a game each week, less disruption to team but best players are then off for half a game - girls are off every second week, or 2 girls off each quarter, more disruption but best players are only off for quarter of a game, girls are off every week. I am required to give all players equal time on the court throughout the season. Thank you.

Where are coaches permitted to stand during a game?

Hi, does anybody know exactly where the coaches are allowed to stand during a game? I have asked a few people already and they are not 100% sure . It would be great if anyone has the correct answer to this and/or where I could find it? Thanks

Defending a shooter who steps in

I need some clarification please. In the goal circle if GS steps in towards the goal post and lifts her grounded foot, where does the defender defend from if the shooter stepped in before the defender lifted her arms? Is the 3ft from where her grounded foot was or where she stepped in to?

First time selector at netball trials - HELP!

I have been asked to help select college senior and junior teams. I have never done this before so would appreciate ANY advice. I don't think the teams for the trial games have been set up yet. What's the best way to do this?

Building Trust and Rapport with 14-16 yr old group

I am due to take over from a long established coach at a club taking the 14-16 yr old category. I've been helping out and taking half the session for a few weeks now and come Sept the other coach will step back and leave it to me most weeks. The group is mixed ability with up 20-30 coming each week to an hour long session. Some do play in league games and a number come for the social aspect. One thing I have noticed is that I sometimes struggle to get them to listen and carry out instructions properly. I also think there is a bit of testing on their part as I am new and they want to see what they can get away with! Any tips for building up a bit more trust and rapport with the group? I think my lesser experience comes through at times (have been a coach for 2 years now and mainly taken ladies groups who are at a lower level player wise).

getting back to netball

I've just recovered form an ankle injury after 4 weeks without any netball. i was wondering how i should get back to netball, because i often find myself wondering if i will still be good at attacking and defending and all the other things you need as a player. Should i take it easy on the first week of training? What if i'm not good enough for the games we have on Saturday??

Defensive Issue

I'm a GK/GD and I have REALLY long arms so even if I am 3 feet away from my opponent, I always get called for obstructions because it looks like I'm way too close (even though I'm not) Any tips?

Kathleen Coach, New Zealand

Obstruction rules

Is it obstruction if the defending player is standing next to the person in possession of the ball with their arms down ie. not attempting to defend or intercept the ball whilst mid-court? There is a lot of mixed messaging from umpires around this rule, particularly if it occurs within goals with some umpires saying as long as you're not putting your hands up to defend the ball or standing in front of them then it is not obstruction to then being called obstruction in instances decribed above.

Training duration. How long is...

How long do you think 11 to 15 year olds can train for in one session before not gaining any benefit. I was thinking 1hour to 1.5 at the max.I have a wide range of ages in my team this year and want to make sure that the older girls are being challenged enough and the younger ones aren't over doing it.

Shooter taking long shots all ...

Hi,I am finding it really difficult to get one of my shooters out the habit of trying to shoot every shot from the outer edge of the circle with not a very good success rate. She doesn't seem to see or want to understand that a pass would be more beneficial, has anyone had similar issues or have any suggestions to get rid of this attitude and mindset. Quick feet vs longer strides |...

Hi There, My Daughter runs in very big steps, I think if she runs in small quick steps, it will be better and quicker to dodge her defender? Any thoughts and or drills to help with this please? Love this page!!!

Long Range Shooting over a Def...

I'm a short GA (5'3) and I can shoot decently from mid range and short range (although mid range is where I prefer shooting from). I'd like to get better at long range shooting, but I'm not really sure how. I can get in long goals sometimes when I'm practicing at the post but during training with a defender (who is tall), it is a very hard task. During matches, it's closer to impossible, although I've gotten the occasional long goal in because the defender decided to stand for a rebound instead of marking haha. But I'd like to be able to get these goals in consistently [over a defender] – not just because it was a lucky shot. Any tips on how? It'd be appreciated.

Obstruction query-3ft as long ...

If a player has the ball is it ok for an opponent to be less than 3ft from them if their hands are down ( not marking the ball). The opponent is facing them but not extending their hands in any way.

What a fantastic tool. The Chalkboard and session tools make an unbelievable difference in making training plans in both time and organization. I will be instructing all of my assistant coaches that this tool must be used for all sessions during the season, so that we may build a club coaching resource library.
