Cover Defence: Ball and Hole G...

Two defenders work inside a circle of players with one ball. The red players must pass the ball around the group and try to keep possession. The two defending players must work together to mark the ball, keeping the 3ft distance, while the other defenders 'zones' the space. So, if Red 1 receives the ball, Green 1 (the nearest defender) calls "ball" and goes to cover the ball and Green 2 moves back, calls "hole" and zones the area.

Modified game for interception...

Goal Keeper floats to the top of the circle and drives to either side of the area to intercept balls that are fed up to the opposition's Goal Attack/ Wing Attack. By moving to try and intercept the ball your player will inevitably leave a hole. To ensure this hole isn't exploited by the other team it is important that the Goal Defence drops back to cover the direct throw to the red team's Goal Shooter.

Side/backline throw inPlace 6 different coloured cones in different places on the side and back lines to signal start position of the throw in.Coach calls out a colour and one of the attackers runs to pick up the ball from this cone.Play until each ball next to the cones has been used (6 times).1 point if the attackers get the ball to half way(You can give them the option to get to goal if you want, which would be worth 2 points, but having a full court of players could leave the players at the other end being less active).You can also give the defenders a point for successful intercepting

Left or right 4 players 1 ball 1 player is the worker 1 semi active defender and 1 feeder and 1 player catching the pass. The ball is fed into the worker who has to pass the ball left or right past the defenders to the player behind the defender. After the player has caught the ball she passes it to the original feeder to start the practice again.

Players work in groups of 4, with 3 attackers forming a triangle, standing 1.5 meters apart and one defender stood in the middle. The ball is passed in any direction between the 3 attackers. The defender must use fast feet to follow the passes and try to intercept the ball.

Time your run - pass and move ...

The Player with the ball passes to player in space on the left. The player receiving the ball jumps into the air, prior to pass and turns in the air to receive ball, finishing up facing backwards to return ball to player in the same queue. This player then passes diagonally to the right.

Intercept With Defence Interce...

Set up GS and GK in the shooting circle. Two midcourt players start with the ball in the centre third towards the transverse line. One player in the centre of the court (C), one on the side (WA). Put a bib on a player to be the floating defender. Ball starts with the player in the center and is passed square to the other midcourt player who passes straight back.Floating defender to put pressure on these passes- hands over the ball.The WA player on the side then drives as if heading to the pocket, in the same channel. C player passes a long ball to the pocket for the WA. GK comes out of the circle hunting for that long ball to the WA ensuring the timing is right.If GK is successful, they then pass back to the C and drive up the court. Floating defender to defend the GK player coming up the court and trying to get the next ball. GK player will need to dodge or front cut in order to get free for the pass from the C player.

Moving the Ball Decision makin...

Groups of 4, in an area the length of a third and just under half way across court. In this area have 3 attackers, 1 defender.Starting at one end of the third the attackers move to the other end with their passes. Defender attempts to stop this. If the ball is intercepted it is reset to the end that play started on.When attackers make it to the opposite end = 1 pointWhen the attackers get to 4 points swap the defender. If the defenders are really struggling then the width can be made smaller.

5 Point Interception Intercept...

Have two players passing a ball back and forth about 5m apart. Set up 5 cones behind one of the players, in a semicircle behind them, about 2m away from them.These cones will dictate the starting positions (with varying difficulty) of the defender.The defender needs to stand by the first cone, before running in to intercept a pass to the player near them. They then pass the ball back to the opposite player, run to the next cone and back to intercept the next pass.The purpose is to get 5 successful intercepts (one from each of the cones) in a row.

1 player is a cat1 player is a mouseThe other players lie (or stand) in lines (can have 2-4 groups depending on numbers) The Cat tries to tag the Mouse.If the Cat manages to tag the Mouse then they swap roles (she becomes the Mouse and the Mouse becomes the Cat).The Mouse runs away and joins the end of a group "in the mouse hole" to be safe. When the Mouse joins the end of a line then the person at the other end of the line becomes the new Mouse to be chased by the Cat.

Netball: Interception Triangle...

Get into 4's with 1 ball 3 players will create a triangle shape and will each be a feeder One feeder will start with the ball (in the example, the player at the top of the triangle) The worker will receive 3 balls from each post:<br>1) The feeder will simple drop the ball, the worker will need to drive forward to collect the ball and pass it back to the feeder <br>2) The second ball will be over the workers head - so the worker will drive back on an angle towards one of the spare feeders and intercept the pass. The ball will then be passed back back to the feeder <br>3) For the final ball the spare feeder (who the worker did not drive towards) will enter the triangle. The worker will need to cut across and intercept the pass Once the worker has recieved all 3 balls from that post they will move onto the next post and do the same 3 balls Once all 3 posts have been used (so the worker has recieved 9 balls) they can switch out

End Zone Game Interception - N...

Using cones create two end-zones either side of the middle 3rd on the court and divide your players into 2 equal teams. One player starts with the ball in their end zone and starts the game with a pass. The team in possession of the ball has to always keep one player in the oppositon's end zone - This players has to be marked by 2 defenders. The rest of the players play in the centre, this creates an overload for the team in possession. The aim of the game is for the team in possession to score as many points as possible before losing possession or within a time limited. A point is scored with every pass and 5 points are scored for every pass made to the player in the end zone.

A game using the full court, 5 attackers, 4 defenders, 1 trailer.Split the court in half, 2 attackers, 2 defenders in each half. trailers in one half and the last attacker in the centre position.Attackers are aiming to move the ball from the end of court with the Trailing player to halfway (and then on to the other end of court)10 reps, keeping score (this can be reduced if you have a bigger squad).Rules:Defenders are fixed to their attackers up to halfwayOriginal trailer fixed to their halfAttackers from the trailer's half can go anywhere. As they cross the halfway line they become trailers for the other attackers. The Centre is undefended.

Try to intercept Interception ...

Players work in groups of 4. The feeder stands with the ball in front of the 3 other players. The two receiving players stand 5 meters away from the feeder and 2 meters apart. The defending player is only a few steps behind the receivers. As soon as the pass is made by the feeder the defender can make their move and try to intercept the ball before it reaches its intended target. The receivers are not allowed to move towards the pass. When the defender successfully intercepts the ball they can swap with the receiver who now becomes the defender.

Have two lines of players both stood behind a cone on the edge of the first third. The red player starts with the ball. The blue player sprints to the cone on the baseline and receives the diagonal overhead pass from the red player. Once they have received the ball the blue player then passes the ball to the next player in their team before sprinting the back of their line. The drill repeats the other way round (blue passing to red). Drill continues in this way.

Unlimited number of players, 1 ball between 2, 1 full court length. Players pass the ball between thier partner whilst moveing down the court.When players reach the end of the court they peel out and pass over the inside line using overhead passes.Transition should be continuous.

Intercepting the Pass Intercep...

White 1 is defending and must try to be first to the pass from the feeder (blue 1). Blue 2, the attacker, is not allowed to step in front of the defender but can move laterally to be in an <em>open</em> position to receive the pass from the feeder. Repeat for 5 passes and then rotate players.

White player 1 initiates a move towards either ball (on cone). Red player 1 responds and tries to get the ball before white 1 . But whoever gets to the ball first throws to their team mate. Defender must decide whether to go for the ball and defend the throw if unsuccessful or drop back and mark the receiver.

Split your players into two equal teams and put down an equal number of cones in each final third.The two teams compete against one another, trying to take cones/bibs from their opponents area and place them behind their line.

Christmas Stocking Warm Up War...

4 teams have a 'Christmas stocking' (box 2m x 2m) each and they each start with 4-5 objects that are 'presents' (spare shoes, coloured cones, bibs etc). They learn which objects belong to their team and each team puts all their objects in a ball bin (or coned area) in the middle. Play starts, only one person from each team can run forward to collect an object from the middle at each time.  The other players can steal presents from other teams, but they have to put it back in the box in the middle.  Teams can try to defend their stocking. Teams are aiming to fill their stocking again with the presents they had originally.

How do you get players to communicate on court?

Does anyone have any tips / ideas / drills on getting players to talk to each other during game play... not just calling for the ball when making a lead but directing play too? I have a team of mixed experience but when they play in a game you can almost hear a pin drop! Any advice?!

Stepping in the centre circle ...

My centre was penalised for stepping in the centre circle - she took her centre stance and after the whistle was blown she stepped out with one foot. I didnt think a centre had a 'landing foot' at a centre pass, providing both feet are in the circle when the whistle blows, but the umpire said when she returned to the circle she put her left foot in first so that became her landing foot even though play had not been started. I told her just to stay in the circle but I would like to know if the umpire was correct or if she had it wrong
