I have thoroughly enjoyed using your site to help me with my coaching plans for my under 9's netball team.
Does anyone have a drill to encourage under 11's to come forward for a pass rather than asking for the overhead pass all the time as they are 'running away' from the ball in their haste to get to the circle?
hi i jut started playing GK for a local netball team and i am struggling abit, im not sure on what i can and cant do, ie jumping and waving my arms etc plz help
What is the best way to defend a holding shooter. At the moment I am trying to get my Keeper to keep moving around the holding shooter, mixing up going behind and infront, so the feeder isn't 100% sure what the holding space is. But am struglling to think of some drills to instill the movements into the circle defenders. Look forward to hearing your fantastic suggestions, Donna
Hi, I was wondering if someone could please explain what "holding" means in a netball game. Sometimes a defending player will get penalised for 'holding'. Thank you.
Can anyone please give me some training ideas for defending the lob pass? Back in my days (too many ago to mention) we were taught to stand off and slightly to the side of the attack to discourage the lob being made. I haven't found much on the internet to help me with this one
I play school and state netball as a GK/GD, when my other player is defending the GS or GA, I hold on to her defenders leg/hand for an extra lean. Because I'm quite larger and taller than most girls and already have a pretty good lean, when I ask my defender to hold me so that i am closer to deflecting the shot, she uses two of her hands and her body strength to hold me. My coach told me not to do this because she believed I wasn't allowing myself nor my other player to get an intercept or rebound, even though we had gotten most rebounds and had gotten a few intercepts with this technique. Is this an disadvantage or advantage to us?
Any help is much appreciated in advance. How do I stop a defender using her elbows and hands when defending. We've tried holding the skirt but once she gets into the game out come the elbows and the hands. She is really a great defender apart from this which is causing way too many penalties
How to defend a holding shooter
I coach U15's. Issue is best defence options against very tall goalers doing a hold. Can you advise how a GK can best defend that hold? I don't have very tall players so height an issue regardless of who I play GK.
Hi allWhats the best way to defend a great holding shooter? And I also have a player who every time receives the ball she'll just pass straight away, I always keep encouraging her to hold it for just a little bit as most of the times and look for options 1,2, or 3, the pass just isn't in the right space, or she'll pass to a heavily defended player, etc I have been doing a lot of drills involving timing, space, driving and passing she tends to get it in training just not in match play. She just seems frantic. Any tips. As I just want to get this across to her.
How does a team defend against opposition that pass into space extremely well. I teach my girls to stay in front of player as a defender but their passing is extremely on point and very difficult to intercept. Can you give me some suggestions.

Iâm looking for a drill for my gk to help defend a holding gs. Iâve encouraged the gk to keep moving around the gs to limit passing options into the gs but need a drill
Can the GD/GK stand close behind - within 3 feet of - the GS/GA while they are shooting and so effectively prevent them from stepping back to a more comfortable position (e.g. when they are directly under the ring)? If not, which rule prevents this?

Would like some advice as to how to coach defenders to defend a shooter who holds to protect space? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
