Netball: handling games

What should I do on a first coaching session ? I don't want the girls to get bored, i want them to want to come back next week.

how can I help ma players, there are starting but there are students of secondary schools and I want them to join the team because of there height and they alms like the game but problem is ball handling they can not catch hard pass so , help me coaches so that next year I come with a trophy of my district and national championship Ball game 2 or fresh dairy games. thanks your's faithfully coach sam Uganda

I am looking for pre game drill ideas. in half a hour we warm up with dynamic stretching. Ball handling/passing then 2 or 3 team drills. What drills do you recommend for adult top level drills?

Hello. I am a 14 year old girl. I have never umpired before, and i am expected to umpire this weekend.  I will be starting on 10-12 year olds. As you can see i dont have much experience at umpiring and i am pretty nervous that im going to stuff up or call the wrong award for the infringment that occured. I have read the Netball Australia umpiring book but some of the words are too fomral for my liking, i dont quiet undertsand. ANY TIPS PLEASE?!

Are the rules for Sub-Juniors that same as those for Juniors or Netta?  Haven't got our rule books as yet and have our first training session this week! Any advise appreciated!

At a recent game the opposition umpire said that we no longer do toss ups and rather rudely overruled my team's umpire. I have not been formally involved in umpiring for about 5 years and had not heard this - toss ups were still in the rule book when I did the online umpiring test earlier this year. Can anyone enlighten me?

Hi, This week I'm planning an extra fun training session for my U9's. After an all day carnival on the weekend, I thought having the parents join in our session could be fun. Has anybody done this and got any good ideas for games that would work for the kids and parents - any ideas for fun ways to modify the rules for a full court game that would even up the girls and parent's skills would be appreciated too. Hi, I'm co-coaching an U13 team. The players are a mix of experienced, but mostly inexperienced players, with a couple of players who are really talented (these are two of our inexperienced players). All players are new to each other. The girls won every game at the district grading days and we were upgraded two levels. We are now in round 6 of the competition and the girls have lost every game and we just lost from the team that was below them on the ladder. We've had a couple of injuries and one was quite bad in round 4 requiring surgery which has shaken the girls as well. They are starting to lose heart and their game is deteriorating. How do we keep them motivated?

While coaching my 9-12 yr olds recently I was told by the nearest umpire that I was not allowed to call helpful tips out to my players while games is in play. Is this correct procedure for "Adult" games or was the umpire being a little strict for the age group?Thankyou Christina WA Coach

Hi, does anybody know exactly where the coaches are allowed to stand during a game? I have asked a few people already and they are not 100% sure . It would be great if anyone has the correct answer to this and/or where I could find it? Thanks

During my class session, few of my students are poor in lob passing. Their technique of passing is wrong. How can I improve their lob passing skill, with an interesting games approach?

What is the best way for players 11-13 to mitigate the affect of open players using their elbows. It is brought to the umpires attention and they do their best. However, I have in the last few weeks heard 2 different coaches (when I was observing games - hence I could hear the coach) give instructions to her players to "use elbows and intimidate". Seems a growing trend based on what a lot of players are doing on court in a range of teams. Defensively my players are starting to shy away from staying close to their oppn player. When on attack - I tell them to keep moving so the oppn defense can't set up on them and use the elbow. The poor GS particularly is getting really knocked about a lot of time as she is trying to execute a hold sometimes.
