Circle edge drive Getting free...

This drill enables players to begin to link the movement patterns up the court from the centre pass. 2 lines of players beginning in the centre third, 1 shooter and 1 defender in the shooting area. Players in 1 line have a ball each, player in opposite line sprints to receive a pass on the circle edge. Feeder (after passing ball) also drives to circle edge to support the first attacking player. Meanwhile the attacking player with the ball passes to the shooter and makes a shot for goal. Players then join the back of the line and the next pair attack.

4+ players set up on half court. One stationary feeder to set up in front of the centre circle with the ball. One defender to hover just inside the shooting third.Two attacking players, one from each sideline, run to meet in the middle, high five and then run out in a "V" to space.Defender to pick up either of the attackers.Feeder delivers the ball to the free attacker. They are to then pass to the attacker with the defender on them. The attacker needs to work hard to receive this pass on the circle edge. Play the ball back with the defender receiving the next pass and back to feeder.

Agility progression to circle.5 cones, half court, 1+ players.1. Cones are lay out in a diamond formation. Player starts at top of diamone, drives straight to top cone, back towards left cone, and straight drive to circle edge with strong bent knees. 2. Add in defence. Players run the same ilnes but a defende is added in to 'shadow'. 3. Bring in ball, remove the defender. Player still running the same lines. Player recieves a pass from the feeder at the circle edge. 4. Both players run the drill, both splitting seperate ways after first drive. Ball can be delivered at different points.

Player makes a 'figure of 8' around the cones and drives towards the circle edge. Progression 1:Ball to be recieved on the circle edge.Progression 2: Add another drive to the pocket.

End drill – Feeding into circleSet up: four corners of 2-3 players, 1 ball, goal third end of court.Aim for the two groups of players on transverse line to hit the circle edge and feed ball into the circle to a shooter with a defending player.Bottom left corner (A) player drives out along sideline. Receives a pass from the defending player in the circle.Player from top left corner (B) drives straight into the court to receive a pass from the sideline player. Player B passes back to player A and drives towards the circle edge where player A delivers a long ball to player B as close to the circle edge they can get. Player A joins line where player A started.Player from top right corner (C) drives to circle edge to help feed pass into player D who has driven from bottom right corner into the circle as shooter. Player B joins line player C started in. After player C delivers final pass to shooter, player C joins bottom right corner. Essentially, all players rotate anticlockwise around the 4 corners.

A starts with the ballORANGE drives and receives the ball from A (1)RED drives straight to receive the ball from ORANGE (2)Orange does a 'give and go' to receive the ball back from Red, landing circle edge (3)ORANGE then drives high into the third to receive the ball back from RED (4)YELLOW drives out straight to receive the ball from RED (5)RED does a 'give and go' to receive the ball back from YELLOW (6)YELLOW then drives deep to land circle edge and receives the ball back from RED (7)BLUE drives into the circle and receieves the ball from YELLOW (8)The practice is then repeated in the same order.To begin tell each player to go back to their orignal queue - so they are practicing the same movement over and over.

Set up two equal lines of players, stood behind the post.Each player has to run out to a cone on the edge of the shooting circle where they then receive a pass landing with one-two footwork. Players then take a shot, and collect the rebound.After collecting their own rebound players rotate positions. The shooter goes to edge of the shooting circle with the ball and the player previously outside the shooting circle joins the back of the line.Drill then continues.

AUDIO DESCRIPTTION ONSet up:One third, shooting end of court.One ball5+ playersTwo players stand on base line with the ball. Three stationary feeders assembled as a triangle facing the shooting circle (two either side of circle and one at the transverse line). Description:Players on base line: Player closest to feeder passes the ball to standing feeder at side of circle. Both players drive out from base line. Player who passed the ball drives around the feeder who was just passed to (diagonal drive). Other player drives towards the stationary feeder near transverse line (straight drive), they need to prepare to receive a pass. First feeder catches and delivers a pass to the forward driving player before they get to the stationary feeder.The driving player with ball now passes ahead to the stationary feeder at the transverse line. The first initial driver has driven around first feeder and aims for a cross court straight drive to the final feeder.Stationary feeder at transverse line delivers a pass to the initial driver which will be received mid court. Initial driving player passes to the last stationary feeder in front of them and continues to drive around them.Other driving player would have driven around the transverse standing feeder and drives straight back towards base line and will receive a pass from the last stationary feeder midcourt before sending the last pass to the other driving player.

Split players into pairs with 1 ball between them and set up as diagram (half a third each if available).Black C is the feeder and has the ball. The white C is the worker and will be working for 2 minutes and will then swap roles with the black C.The worker starts in the corner - side steps the horizontal lines then changes pace and direction, while sprinting the vertical lines.The worker then heads towards the feeder to receive a pass when the feeder wishes to put the ball in.The worker then sprints back to the corner changes pace and direction back to a side step then repeats around the whole grid creating a star shape.The worker works for 2 minutes trying to complete as many circuits of the star as possible in the 2 minutes.The feeder can only pass the ball to the worker when they are driving forwards to start with.

3-5 players, 1 ball, 1/2 court space.1 player, the feeder stands on the third line with the ball.The other two players (workers) stand about 3 metres away facing away from the feeder.The workers jog away from the feeder. When the feeder calls &quot;turn&quot; or &quot;go&quot; both workers turn and drive towards the ball in anticipation to catch the pass. The feeder can choose either players to pass the ball to.This can be set up with two sets of workers and the feeder can alternate between each set of partners.

Feeder starts with the ball outside of the diamond, 2m from the edge. Attacker and Defender start in the square. Attacker has to get free from defender and receive a pass from F at the cones of the diamond. Defender has to prevent A from moving, restricting her space. Work for 2-4 minutes with A moving to as many different cones as possible to receive a pass from F. Swap roles.

Set up: Five cones set up as a square with one cone in the center, 1 ball, 4-6 players.Two feeding players are set up in between cones in line with the center cone.Two attacking players start on the centre cone and choose a corner cone to drive out to, each driving to opposite cones.Attackers time their drive so they receive their pass on the centre cone.Attackers are to create a ‘bow’ shape by driving to the outer cones one at a time and receiving a pass on the middle cone between each drive.

The feeders are positioned adjacent to one another, at the top and side of the circle - with a shooter and defender inside the circle. The shooter can offload to either feeder. If the shooter cannot get free within 3 seconds OR the attacker is holding the side of the free feeder - the ball can swing to the free feeder. The ball can only be swung once, at which point it must be passed to the shooter. The shooter must still try to get free each time for the first feed. Once the shooter has receieved the ball they can put up a shot.

Set up: 6+ players, full court space, 1-4 balls, 8 conesThree cones are set up across the width of the court about a meter in from the sideline. In groups of three players line up across from each other behind the cones. Cones may be placed along the sideline so player understand they are to stay on the outside of theses cones but still in court. The ball starts with the middle person. Player on the left cone drives out straight and receives a pass from the middle. Middle person then runs to the person they passed the ball to. Player on left who received the pass, deliveries the ball to the third player who has driven out on the right. When players pass they the follow it to the player they have passed to take their position. Players continue this ‘weave’ down the court.

HELP Quarter time break talks

I have found I tend to repeat myself a lot when it comes to the break times. I actually had a mental block in what to say in one game at 3 quarter time & felt like a real fool. I feel I am letting the girls down. I guess my nerves kicked in.My team is a mixed bag of skills, they are 15, 16 year olds & we haven't won many games due to having to teach half the team basic skills to break bad habits. Yet I can't advance the skilful players. I do work on a positive mind etc as I find some don't have confidence in their ability. I haven't been trained as a coach, I look on sites like this one for help. I use to coach 4 years ago primary age teams & we were very successful but we grew together over the years.With the teenagers & a different school I have found it more challenging & feel I maybe out of my depth & don't want to let the girls down.Does anyone have advice for me. thanks
