Netball: court zones

What is channelling in netball - can someone explain this terminology for me please...

I coach a group of 10 girls (8 yrs old) in the grade above netta (we call it Sub-minis but same rules as netta) I rotate them 4 def 2 c 4 attack (eg 3/4 each or 1/2 if they are center) I am having problems teaching them spaceing and who to lead into which spot etc. After our game on the weekend I thought I'ld try a different tack (was a bit loathed to do this as they may take it too literal) but I am wanting to split the court into "zones" for each position as a guide for them eg Center gets the middle "track" right down the court WA one side GA the other etc. has anyone tried this, will it make it worse any further suggestions......?????

My team has girls aged 11 and 12 and I have always taught them one on one defending. Are they too young to teach switching to?

My friend coaches an under 13s team and when someone has the ball they all run for it like seagulls going for bread. The coach has told them many times to spread out and for not everyone to run to the ball at once but the girls keep doing it and they can't get the ball down the court.

Hi, does anybody know exactly where the coaches are allowed to stand during a game? I have asked a few people already and they are not 100% sure . It would be great if anyone has the correct answer to this and/or where I could find it? Thanks

How do I set a defensive zone (ie GA WA C WD GD) and teach the girls to defend the zone they are in and not go for the ball?

I am an umpire as well as a player, and I had a situation a few weeks ago that challenged my knowledge. On a centre pass. Referring to the third lines. Do the third lines form part of the centre court or are they part of the goal third. In other words at what point would GA,GD,WA and WD become off side? If their foot/feet were on the line? Same for the Centre, would she be off side if her foot/feet were on the line?

My associate coach and I disagree on whether U/10s should play different positions or focus/settle on one, maybe two. I don't want to put the girls in a box at such a young age but I also don't want a Jack of all Trades situation. They are still developing so much that I feel I'll be doing them a disservice by just putting them in the same position every week. The assistant coach says if we move them around we're not going to do as well but that is where the participation vs performance comes in for me. Surely at this age development is more important than winning?No coach likes to lose but I don't want to win at the expense of them experiencing different positions. What do you guys suggest? I have taken over coaching a 15/un open team about 8 months ago. The focus for improvement was to work on fitness. They are much fitter than when we started and now can finish off a game. There are 4 very good players and 4 average players. I need help with the attitude of one of the girls. She half-hearted takes direction, doesn't play well unless she plays in the position she wants to, constantly whispers negatives to others at training and is constantly giving us intolerable looks if she doesn't like what she hears. I could go on and on. And yes she is one of the average players. We have 3 coaches in the team and we have never come across such a rude girl. In my day you would get a ball in head if you weren't looking and listening to the coach! Please help with how we can engage this girl.

I coach 16 and 17 yr olds, so they are more than capable. I have one girl who already knows what do but her explanations are terrible and I dont know how to explain it to the rest of the team.

Defending the Throw In. On the weekend, the opposition had a set play (on some occasions but not all the time). GK was throwing in. The GD, WD & C all gathered between the centre and the 1/3rd line, closer to the 1/3rd line. Each of them broke at different times. 1st GD leading left, then WD leding right and C down the middle. This week if they do that again, I think I will not have my GA/WA/C next to the girls, but 4-6 ft in front of them waiting for the leads on the angle to watch the leads and the throw in. Any other suggestions? we play that team again this week!!   

Defending off court player.When a player in general play goes off court to improve her position , does the defender HAVE to allow her onto the court ? OR can she block her from returning. Eg shooter on one side of the circle goes off court around the goalpost and tries to return to court on the other side but defender {on court} blocks her from returning. Is this legal ???

i have begun to coach an under 11's team and they don't talk to each other or work as a team and i was wondering if there was any good tips to get them to do so?

I'm an accredited coach doing some research on blocking as I had never had a player called for 'interference'. Is it within the rules to block your opponent from leading down court whilst facing her? The example is with my WD going out for centre pass, then blocking her WA (whilst facing her) to delay WA's lead down court.
