Netball: centre play

Team yellowhas centre pass- but ball not touched in centre third but caught by green team in goal third. Is this a penalty as 1st pass not received in centre third or can play go on?

What skills does a centre play need in particular that separates them from the rest of the players? I'm interested in the specific skills to work on in relation to the drills, etc so there isn't too much unrelated stuff going on.

I am coaching U/9 team that has just started this season. We have just recruited another girl and so now we have 9 children playing. I want to give everyone an opportunity to play different positions, without confusing them! How can I rotate the positions to give 8 players a quarter off without disrupting the team too much?

Any ideas on how to rotate nine players in an under fifteen years team (none of whom want to play defence)??

My centre was penalised 3 times for not stepping into the centre circle directly at the centre pass. This seems a strange application of the deliberately delaying play rule, as she certainly was not doing it deliberately. What rule exactly was she infringing here?

My centre was penalised for stepping in the centre circle - she took her centre stance and after the whistle was blown she stepped out with one foot. I didnt think a centre had a 'landing foot' at a centre pass, providing both feet are in the circle when the whistle blows, but the umpire said when she returned to the circle she put her left foot in first so that became her landing foot even though play had not been started. I told her just to stay in the circle but I would like to know if the umpire was correct or if she had it wrong

How domi deal with a player who does not attend training but yet wants to participate in league games. She is a good player but I feel she is missing out on training and how the whole team functions together and led eloping herself further.Also I have a player who thinks she is the best player in the team . She enjoys playing centre position which she is very good at. After half time I get her to sit out because I need to give ankther players who is totally as good as her to play centre as its fresh legs on the court, plus she gets a little tired playing centre.She feels she is capable of playing a full game and why does she have to sit out at half time. All the players are excellent players in the team therefore it's difficult to decide who to sit out and who to keep on??Please advise

Need some help on a dispute on a decision I made during a match I was umpiring recently.A player was tying her shoe laces in my half of the court. A goal had been scored in the half I was umpiring. Centre stepped in the centre circle whilst this player was still attending to her shoe lace. So in affect she had not got herself on side and then gone off side she just did not get on side.I blew the whistle to start play as the centre was ready. As the player who was in my half and was off side, I blew for offside.Can I have clarification on this please, was I correct, or should the other umpire have called this offside even though the player was in my half?Secondly, a reputable umpire told me a couple of months ago, that the umpire blowing the whistle to start the game at a centre pass, controls both sides for off side? I.e. All players that go offside at the centre pass, to the left and right of the centre circle. I was not suite about this so need clarification on that too.Thanks in anticipation.

Good day. I would like some clarity regarding transverse lines. Are players allowed or how far are players allowed to step on or stand on transverse lines during play or at goal circles and at centre passes. Please some controversy regarding this rule.

My associate coach and I disagree on whether U/10s should play different positions or focus/settle on one, maybe two. I don't want to put the girls in a box at such a young age but I also don't want a Jack of all Trades situation. They are still developing so much that I feel I'll be doing them a disservice by just putting them in the same position every week. The assistant coach says if we move them around we're not going to do as well but that is where the participation vs performance comes in for me. Surely at this age development is more important than winning?No coach likes to lose but I don't want to win at the expense of them experiencing different positions. What do you guys suggest? Hi Everyone I've been playing defence for a long time now, and only last Saturday did I start to play centre. It was during our warm up on that day, (before our game) when my coach told me that I would be playing centre. I agreed to do it, but the problem was that the other team was a really good and very fit team. I struggled a lot durig the game, and i felt like i was dying the whole time! Also because I had never played centre before I didn't know how to feed the ball into the goal circle. I also don't know how to defend on the goal circle. The question is as aboveHow are you supposed to enter the center circle for the center pass, we were being pulled up and I dont know why

I am an umpire as well as a player, and I had a situation a few weeks ago that challenged my knowledge. On a centre pass. Referring to the third lines. Do the third lines form part of the centre court or are they part of the goal third. In other words at what point would GA,GD,WA and WD become off side? If their foot/feet were on the line? Same for the Centre, would she be off side if her foot/feet were on the line?

I am coaching 10 & 11yr old girls for the 2nd year purely because no one else wanted to do it - I've never even played netball and this site helps me every week, invaluable and we see tangible results. 1st year we won comp and championship, this year came 2nd in comp, champ starts this Sat. Two of the girls have told me their mums are changing them from this school team to another club (the one that won) next year 'cause "the coaching's not good enough for their child". All this teaches their child is that if your team isn't winning, go to another - forget about loyalty. Sometimes it difficult to take this on the chin. Any advice?

I am Father coaching my Daughters Netball Team & I wanted to use a different set up when Taking the Centre Pass to Start ,so I need to know where the GA,WA,WD & GD are allowed to stand when a Centre pass is being taken?DO they need to stand at the line as normal or can I change it up a bit?-Say one player up at line in the very centre of line and one player standing or running around behind in the centre of their Third?? Hi, I am a 13 year old girl who plays netball every Saturday. I have been playing netball as a centre since I was about 9 yrs old. When I moved teams I changed to GA cause they needed a GA. I had also been playing basketball so when I moved into GA I shot like a basketballer. I only just recently started trying to shoot like a netballer, but it is't really working. Our GS is usually the player that shoots most of our goals but she broke 2 fingers and is out for the finals. I need some advice to help me to be a better GA and step up a shoot lots of goals to see our team go into the grand final.I need help learning to shoot better but my coach is young and plays defence. p.s. I am the only other shooter in my team.
