I have thoroughly enjoyed using your site to help me with my coaching plans for my under 9's netball team.
Our green year 8 netball team started off a little awkward at the beginning of the season, with footwork issues, bunching the usual. I checked out and used some of the drills from your website and after my first week with the team the difference was remarkable regarding the footwork and over the following weeks they kept improving, nothing major, but improved they did. With constant repetitive drills, boring drills the team won there grade. To be championship winners is a real morale booster. On behalf of the year 8 5th grade team from Blockhouse Bay, Auckland, NZ thank you for this fantastic coaching tool. I am one happy coach but the confidence boost for the girls is totally priceless. Thank you again for a fantastic website.
Good drills/explanations for younger players to stop bunching, and spread out/get free. Thanks :-)
How do I teach junior players how to play corridors
My girls all huddle up rather than spread out. It is so frustrating. HOw do you teach them to spread out for the ball and keep in their side of the court. Any drills you can direct me to? It is also about getting free. They to lob passes rather than flat passes.
Hi there, I'm coaching for the 1st time this year - a group of year sevens. During practice I keep reminding them to move to the open spaces and not to bunch up. However they don't seem to grasp this. I have blown the whistle mid game and they have to freeze and then we take a good look at our positioning then they move into an open space they could use. They are a very talented team. Is there any drill/strategy I can use in order to stop them all running towards the ball together. They are keen for sure. Thanks. Trish
How can I stop my eight year olds from bunching?
I have a low grade, 10 year old team (3 new players). I can not get the team out of the habit of bunching and standing with hands in the air. I have tried lots of things, some work, but they tend to revert back to bunching when the pressure is on. Can anyone suggest a simple solution.
I am in my second year of coaching my daughters team made up of 12 and 13 year old girls, though I've never played Netball myself. I have learnt much through this site and have used many drills posted here to help improve their overall play, so first of all, thanks to everyone who has contributed with drills, and the Q&A sections. The team has come on in leaps and bounds, from losing every game but one in the two years previous, to making the finals last year. But the one thing that really stands out in their game play at the moment is the tendency to chase the ball, thereby bunching up and leaving no one free to pass to. Playing positions is something that I've read other coaches talk about, though I don't really understand what it means. Do I need to divide the court up from starting positions and teach the girls to try and stay in their area? If so, how do I divide the court up? Do I stop the girls during half-court practice every time they leave their area?I touched on holding positions last training session and during our last game, and said something along the lines that although they need to be available on court for intercepts and passes, they also need to trust in their team mates to cover their own given area to get the ball, but I don't really know I'm on the right track. I would really appreciate any help in this area. I don't know how to go about this at all.
How do you stop 10 year olds bunching on court? They all wanting the ball!
HELP! How do I stop my 6yr old girls from bunching on the court? They are like bees to the honey.
I've coached 5 girls from my netta team for 1 year already they are extremely advanced (hardly stepping, intercepting, not bunching and shadow defending) however I have 4 girls in my team that have never played before joining. Any ideas on how to teach the basics but not boar the other girls?
I am finding our girls are lost on court. Some players are playing harder to make up for girls not being where they should be.
I am finding the girls are lost on court. Some moving more around court to compensate for others. Should I teach them lines?
