Agility and Accuracy - Progression

Place 2 cones on the ground, diagonal from each other - approximately 1 meter apart Place a 3rd cone with a ball on in front of these cones - approximately 2-3 meters away Your players will use a small foot base to move around the cones, ensuring they do not contact the cones When someone says 'Go' or after a certain time the worker will drive hard towards the cone with the ball, pick up the ball and hit a certain target - this may be a brick on the wall for example

Around the cone - meet the pass

Two passers (blue) start with the ball on the outside red cones. Two workers (red) start on the blue cones. One worker goes one way around the outside cone and the other goes the other way around the cone. As they reach the middle of the square they receive a pass from the passers and pass back to the player who passed the them. Repeat 4 times and then change direction.

The working red player catches the pass as before but this time passes the ball to the blue player on the other side.

Crab Relay Race

A fun flexibility drill, with an element of competition to get teams moving. Players are on their hands and feet, with their stomachs facing the sky. In two teams players race in this crab position around a cone and back - scurrying along as fast as possible! Which team will get all their crabs around the cone and back first?

Players work in pairs with one ball and three cones, placed in a triangle. The feeder stands above the top of the triangle. Using quick, small steps the worker has to rotate around the cones in a figure of 8 before then receiving the ball and returning it to the feeder at the top of the triangle.

Hour Glass Passing

Both W1 and W2 simultaneously receive the ball from the feedres, as shown in the diagram, and return the ball to the same feeder. Then both W1 and W2 move around the cones in a figure of 8 receiving the ball at each cone from a feeder W2 will always be one station behind W1

Weave and Shoot - Relay Race

Set up two equal lines of players, stood behind 5 cones which lead into the goal circle. Each player must weave around the cones, picks up the ball and shoots the goal. After the shot players collect the ball and replace it for the next player in line to run onto (if you have more than 8 players, one player can stand behind the goal line and pass the ball to the incoming players).

After players have made a pass they must then run to any cone on the outside of the court and touch it before re-joining the game. Depending on the ability of your players, you can condition the game so the defenders must follow them to the cone.

Cones - run/balance/shoot Move...

One player, the feeder, starts on the edge of the circle. The other player, the worker (number 1 in the diagram) runs around one of the cones set out on the edge of the shooting circle, then drives back into the circle to receive the ball before making the shot. Shooter collects the successful shot or rebound, passes back out to the feeder and repeats with an alternative cone.

4 red players load the first four cones on the tree. Players with the ball start at one end of the court and pass the ball to the next player on the cone, after the player has received the ball they pass it on again and follow their pass and stand on the cone. When the players reach the other end of the court they wait with their ball until all the balls are at this end and then the practice can start again but in reverse.

Set up: 2 post players, 2 balls, 4 cones set up in a square, 1/3 space.Workers line up behind a cone and drive straight out to first cone to recieve a sraight pass from passer.The worker then straight drives across to side cone, recieves a pass from other passer. Drives forward to front cone and receives diagonal pass from the first passer.Worker then drives sideways to the final cone to recieve a pass from the opposite passer. Worker drives midway between the front cones and recieves a pop pass.The worker then returns to the liine they came from and next worker drives out.

Three Man Weave Movement - Net...

Set up: 6+ players, full court space, 1-4 balls, 8 conesThree cones are set up across the width of the court about a meter in from the sideline. In groups of three players line up across from each other behind the cones. Cones may be placed along the sideline so player understand they are to stay on the outside of theses cones but still in court. The ball starts with the middle person. Player on the left cone drives out straight and receives a pass from the middle. Middle person then runs to the person they passed the ball to. Player on left who received the pass, deliveries the ball to the third player who has driven out on the right. When players pass they the follow it to the player they have passed to take their position. Players continue this ‘weave’ down the court.

Split your players into two teams and place 20 cones in the centre third (half upside-down and the other half the right way up). Team A's challenge is to turn all the cones the correct way up and team B's challenge is to turn all the cones upside down. Time limit 30 seconds.

Shooting third, 4+ players, 2+balls, 3+ cones.Space cones out around the shooting circle. The more cones, the more work. Two working players are inside the circle, two passers are outside of the circle area.Players drive out and choose a cone to move around. Passer delivers ball to working player near hoop. Player takes a shot.Working player passess out and moves around another cone. The player is finished when they have moved around all cones.

Full court, 14 players, 1 umpire, 2 sets of bibs, 2 hoops, 8 cones. A normal game situation is set up.4 cones are set up down each sideline. Players are to run around a cone, on the sideline, once they have passed the ball to a player.Once they have run around the cone then they can come back into play.

Set up: Five cones set up as a square with one cone in the center, 1 ball, 4-6 players.Two feeding players are set up in between cones in line with the center cone.Two attacking players start on the centre cone and choose a corner cone to drive out to, each driving to opposite cones.Attackers time their drive so they receive their pass on the centre cone.Attackers are to create a ‘bow’ shape by driving to the outer cones one at a time and receiving a pass on the middle cone between each drive.

The Star Passing - Netball Dri...

This practice encourages concentration and awareness. 3 players (A, B and C) stand on the cones making the top three points of a star (they are static during the practice), the fourth point in made up of a queue of players in pairs. The first pair start. Players 1 passes the ball out to player A and follows their pass, running around them. Player 2 runs staright forward and receives the pass from player A in the centre of the star. Player 2 then passes out to player B and follows their pass running around them. Meanwhile player 1 has run back into the centre to recieve from player B. Player 1 then passes it out to player C and follows their pass around them. Player 2 runs in to receive the pass from player C in the centre Player 2 then passes the ball out to player 1 and player 1 passes it to the next pair. They both then join the back of the line. Rotate the static players as and when.

Virtual Snake-bite Defence - N...

Place some cones in a large circle, using more cones than players. Each player stands behind a cone. Moving on the balls of their feet with little steps your players should be running to the left and to the right of the cone simulating blocking without ever actually running in front of the cone. As they come towards the front of the cone players should use their outside hand to flash in front of the cone (as if blocking a ball). So if your player has run round the left of the cone they should use their right hand. Work for 30 second periods and on the whistle drive to any other cone and start again.

Players must sprint facing forward out around the red cone. After reaching it they should quickly change direction and sprint diagonally back to the blue cone. Players' heads must always be facing forwards (looking over their shoulder when running backwards). Repeat several times. Resting time for players is waiting for their team-mates to complete this running drill.

Workers pass the ball to the person at the next cone and then immediately follow it each time. Once the ball reaches the final cone the final player passes the ball to the waiting players and then sprints to join the back of the queue.

Set up: 1 ball, 4 cones, 1 third area, 6+ players.Three cones are set up in an arrow formation with 2 at the base. A player stands on each of the cones. Remainder of players are in two lines at the bottom of the arrow behind the two cones. Ball starts at Player A (left line). Player A passes to feeder 1 (first cone on the left). Feeder 1 passers to player B while Player A runs around feeder 1. Player B passes to feeder 2 then runs around the feeder. Feeder 2 passes to player A who receives the ball in the middle of the diamond. Player A passes to feeder 3 then runs around the feeder. Feeder 3 passes to Player B who has driven from feeder 2 and receives the ball in the middle.

Set up: Full court space, 4 x mini hurdles, 8x short ladders, 10x cones.Players are divided into 2 groups. Players start at baseline.Two players, from the front of each line begin by jumping over the mini hurdles (set up at right angles to each other).They then run to ladders set up in a cross formation. Action 1: Forward steps into each square.Action 3: Left turn: Forward steps into each square and backwards to return to the middle. Action 3: Right turn. Steps in and out of squares both directions to the middle.Action 4: Stright weave with both feet in each square. Players run towards cones set out in a zig zag formation across the middle third space. Players run from cone to cone in a zig zag direction.The focus is on taking off the outside foot. Players sprint to the end baseline then turn and sprint back to where they came from.

Good one person drills?

I'm a GS playing indoor netball (ie with astroturf and nets around the court). I'm planning on trying out for superleague and state next year, and I want to get some good training in. My local centre have said I can practice there any time I want. I can practice shooting by myself, but the areas I feel I need to work on are catching quick passes, catching angled/spinning passes off the net and breaking free of different style defenders. Any ideas on how I can work on these skills by myself?

What is the best way to defend a holding shooter. At the moment I am trying to get my Keeper to keep moving around the holding shooter, mixing up going behind and infront, so the feeder isn't 100% sure what the holding space is.
