Teaching a player a different position

Hi I am a novice coach but have an excellent left midfielder who needs to learn another position- any suggestions on which position and how I go about it?

It is up to him really whether he wants to go forward or back. He could become a very good left winger (4-3-3 formation). In this position he would always need to be an option when attacking and dominate that side providing an option to midfielders and an way to attack the left side of the opp. half. The best way for him to learn is to play him in these position and if he plays forward tell him his responsibilities have changed, and same if he goes to left back. In training always encourage him to have his back to the sideline and take his first touch forward.
