Managing two u8 teams together and pressure from Dads

Managing two u8 teams together and pressure from Dads

I manage and coach two current u8 boys teams, which as you can imagine is time consuming and often stressful. I can often feel under pressure particularly being a female and getting dads interfering. Time wise I have to train them together but I really need some news ideas to engage them and stop the messing about. I have 16 of them and we are going to u9 in the new season. Any help would really be appreciated.

Hi Faye,

I don`t know if you have this sorted now but I had the same issue. For drills set up 4 * cones for shuttles/dribbling etc so they go in groups of 4 * 4. You should also ask a willing and helpful (not pushy) parent to help as running 16 children by your self will be difficult. I also awarded points out of 10 and they needed 8 to progress. Given then 6 to start and point out how to improve and do them again.

Also point out that the time training is very limited and very important and time messing about is time off their `football playing time`.

Regards

Dan

My thoughts, teams that i have trained, I always arrive 10 or more minutes before training and set up my training area. First rule is, when ever player arrives they shake mine and any other trainers hand, grab a ball and start dribbling around a square I have set up. There is no social club or anything, this puts the kids in a training frame. Once they have all arrived we start with the warm ups (this works for Under 7s to 10s so far.

The session finishes if they have trained well with a fun game of opposites. Lined up i say head they catch the ball i say catch they head, we eliminate the ones until we have a winner. They love it and encourages them to train well.

Thank you to all for your help, I posted this quite a while ago now and my boys are nearly at the end of their u9 season. I am pleased to say that they are doing really well and training is enjoyable. I am on my mod 3 of the level 3 youth award now and have picked up loads of info. My team have done so well this season and despite it not being competitive they are unbeaten this season and very proud of themselves, I am just happy that thewre football is developing well and they are polite well behaved young gents x
