Assessments and measurements

Assessments and measurements

Hi, I am looking for assessments drills\tasks that will allow me to measure player outcomes......a measuring mechanism will also be idealTypically if you want to measure basic technical then you would measure juggling as an example and count the number over a limited duration. but when you start to go into movement etc then it get a bit complicated cause measuring a players ability to receive the ball in his run or on a turn.....how do you measure that?

Hi Trevor,

In terms of measuring the way a player move with the ball and how they receive it, it`s difficult to quantify it into a number to measure. Instead, it`s best to evaluate how they pass and receive the ball, measuring the outcomes they create, the amount of times they make a mistake with their touch and how they carry the ball.

It is slightly more objective and how they receive the ball depends on the situation of the game and where on the field they are, therefore outcomes that are perceived as a success will vary from situation to situation.

By carrying out drills like the one below, where the players make a lot of passes and receipts, you will be able to gauge who your best players are in respects to what you want to measure. It may not come in the form of `how many of x skills can they do?` Instead, you`ll recognise the best players at reading and understanding the game and the situation and how they manage it in terms of their skill level.

I hope this helps!

3 Player Combination

DESCRIPTION
Set up as shown. The player in the middle starts with the ball. They play a diagonal ball into space so that the player to the right can run onto it. That player now plays a square ball to the player far left who plays a 1st time ball to the middle player.

Hi, thank you very much for your response.....the object is around trying to make the assessment of players and their skills more definite and measurable rather than opinion or objectively based......my version of good and your version of good may vary so I want to make it measurable rather.
