"What does the term "holding" mean?

Hi, I was wondering if someone could please explain what "holding" means in a netball game. Sometimes a defending player will get penalised for 'holding'. Thank you.

it means when a defender has their arms around or near their player like a bear hug without touching (imagine putting your arms behind you in an open V position), it basically is "holding" your opponent in a postion without necessarly touching them,  which is not allowed.

"Holding" is just an explanation of the type of Obstruction (Rule 16.4.1) being penalised e.g. using arms or legs away from your body to restrict opposition player movement and, in this case, as clearly described by Lee-anne above.  Umpires should be calling the offence "Obstruction, holding" and using appropriate hand/leg signals to indicate the type of hold being penalised but a lot of calls get shortened to save time and keep the flow of the game moving.
