My GD runs all over the place and when needed in the circle she is too slow in getting there. She plays a good interception game in the middle field. How and to where do I confine her on the court so that she is able to defend in the circle as well?
maybe she will make a better WD if she is a good intercepter? is there someone else who could be playing this position that will see the importance of keeping an eye on the circle as well as interception opoortunities?
do you have access to sit down with her and watch higher level games and show her what a GD should do? she sounds like she is just trying to do everyone elses job for them and not concentrating on her own position. put her in GK maybe for a couple of games to show her how important it is she keeps the circle in sight, and that her interception skills are just as important there than anywhere else.
the other idea is to play a game and if she is more than 5m away from her player at any time the other team is given the ball. that gives her some room to move, but makes her keep a closer eye on her player and where she is. this distance can change on what you think is best.
I only recently took over the coaching of this team, so they have been set in their ways and we havent had too much intensive training sessions. I do think that we can use her on GK and even maybe WD. This is Action Netball that they are playing, so it is important to me that since the court is smaller that everyone needs to stick to their "job description". Thank you very much for your advise, I will definitely explore on WD and implement your training suggestion.
