How do I get my goalies moving?
The goalers should rotate clockwise in the ring. Side stepping across the base line from one side to the other, then driving to the top of the ring, rolling back to the baseline and repeating . The triangle can be as small and as large as you wish. The second goaler follows the first and reads off her. Then introduce dodges and lunges and feeders at the top and sides.
Thanks Lynley.
We have worked more on the drive as the sidestep option was a little slow. I ended up setting up several different triangles instead of working to the top all the time. From here I showed the girls that with their movements that they could set up a screen block for the other goalie to drive the base.
I did find when annalising that the placement and feeding of my centre court was having a bigger impact than I thought.
Again thanks for your info.
My goalies have had a tendency to move a lot but in a very small area leading to congestion and no passing opportunities for WA/C. We have worked on drives out to the 45 and back again and drives right out of the circle if necessary with me calling "one out one in" as a reminder cue which seems to have improved things. Also the C/WA have to be aware of the potential drives and not get in the way by standing firm at the 45 and not adapting to the situation. I also have my GS moving right out of the circle at times to allow a clear drive to the post from GA and not just staying near the post. Coaching the concept of moving out of the area you want lead into including close to the goal post has also helped whole team, I think.
