Tennis: Left Side

Sportplan has been very helpful in guiding me through my first year...
Bill, Newly qualified coach

DESCRIPTION

The player imitates serving action, and then takes backswing and touches the back 2 times with the edge of the racquet.

COACHING POINTS

Many beginners are tempted to serve consistently with improper technique. It shouldn't be surprising because making the ball in always looks better than struggling with the serves for weeks. Unfortunately, these players don't understand various benefits of proper technique and they see only short-terms effects.

In this exercise, the player works on keeping the racquet behind the body in the proper position. It is important to learn how to keep the same grip and wrist aligned with the arm. Touching the back is a good solution for players who open the racquet and hit traditional “pancake” serve.
