DESCRIPTION

  • Player starts from the service line.
  • Coach drops the ball from the net to the deuce side.
  • Player sprints to the ball and hits a counter drop-shot cross-court with control.

COACHING POINTS

  • In this drill, the player works on reaction, speed and control of the shot.
  • A dropped ball, even from a short distance, is really demanding not only to get to but also to hit it in the given area.
  • Player should use a continental grip and try to open the racket face to apply backspin with maximum control.
  • Coach can ask player to hit a given number of balls into the zone or add lob balls after this shot to see if the player is able to deal with short & intensive bursts of speed.
