Tennis: Slow The Rhythm & Then Accelerate

Thank you very much for the marvellous site.
Nick, Tennis coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Coach feeds 3 balls to the ad side
  • Player hits 2 backhand slices cross-court and 1 forehand topspin inside in

COACHING POINTS

  • In this drill, player works on using slice to change the rhythm and prepare the opportunity to put opponent in difficult situation on the court
  • Slow but deep slice keeps the ball low so opponent will have difficulties to get any advantage with his response
  • Most of the time, rival will respond cross-court so player can prepare for this scenario and plan more offensive approach especially with the forehand stroke
  • Being able to change the pace from slow backspin shot to fast topspin response, player will make his tactical skills broader and will be effective especially against players who like to play at the same pace all the time
