DESCRIPTION

Coach feeds short balls to one side. Player alternates between aggressive drive and drop shot.

COACHING POINTS

Many players misunderstand offensive skills. They think that aggressive approach means using 100% of power with less control. Coaches should make players aware that there are more options than just powerful drive. Drop shot is a great variety that can bring many easy points against good opponents. In this exercise, player works on both solutions at the same time. The most important area to look for is preparation - backswing used for the drive and drop shot should be the same. If there is any visible difference with taking the racquet back, a skillful rival will quickly take advantage of that. Jerzy Janowicz is a great example of professional player who uses disguised drop shots to win points off short balls.
