Rounders: Overhead throw

The days of scratching practice drills and plays on scraps of paper...
Andrew

DESCRIPTION

Player work in pairs, throwing the ball to each other.

COACHING POINTS

The side throw is used to generate more power when throwing than the underarm throw.

Players should release the ball approximately at waist height, using their front arm as a pointer which should finish after throwing pointing at their target.

Before throwing look for the elbow to come through first. the elbow should be pointed higher up than when performing a side throw, in order to give the ball a more looping trajectory.

Hold the ball between fingers and thumb on top for control, with palm facing upwards.

Players should let go of the ball lastly with their fingers.
