Get them moving, on and off the ball!

Dear Netball Coach,

This week's session aims to develop your players' running, passing and talking - getting them to time their runs to meet the pass, call when they're ready to receive the ball and move, on and off the ball! Read on to learn more!

Netball's come a long way from its English origins, back in the 1890s when it was played on grass lawns in London and called 'Net ball'.

Ye Olde Netball

Gone are the days of long dresses and restricted movement, nowadays netball's a fast-paced and physically demanding sport! There's no time for standing around which is why this week's session aims to get all your players moving, looking to support the player on the ball and make lots of intelligent runs!

To help your players practice timing their runs and work on being more vocal on the court we start this session with a couple of unopposed pass and move drills. Once practised these skills will be applied in a game situation, with players attempting to support their pass, as before, only this time under pressure!

Don't let your team play slow and restricted netball! Move to find space and support the pass, don't let your netball be stuck in the past!

DESCRIPTION

Here's a play (without defenders) for players to practice a fast pass and move pattern of attacking play.

The Center starts with the ball and passes the GS. They then run to the opposite side of the edge of the D - ready to receive the pass from the WA.

The center then catches the ball and feeds the GS inside the D who finishes the move with a shot on goal.
