Hockey: Drag right to left and change direction back to right

DESCRIPTION

Coach's objective :

To teach the drag from right to left followed by a change of direction and movement back to the right to find space

Purpose :

To exploit space on an opponent's reverse stick as a result of the defender denying the ball carrier the opportunity to cut back

Structure :

Players work on their own.

COACHING POINTS

Cut back left

  • Adopt a ski posture
  • Look ahead (in direction of arrow)
  • Move left to right with stick in contact with the ball
  • Place the right foot on the turf and pivot on it
  • Open the body to the left by moving the left foot (in the direction of the large curved arrow)
  • Drag the ball as fast as possible using the open stick
  • Cut back

 

 

Cut back to the right

  • Move right to left with stick in contact with the ball
  • Place the left foot on the turf and pivot on it (in the direction of the small curved arrow)
  • Open the body to the right by moving the right foot (in the direction of the large curved arrow)
  • Drag the ball as fast as possible using the reverse stick
  • Accelerate away (to space) with the ball to the right
  • Eyes looking up in direction of movement
