Hockey: 1v1 delay defender

I love using Sportplan. It's been a great help for co-ordinating hockey...
Laura, Hockey Coach

DESCRIPTION

One player starts 5 metres away from the line, passes the ball to the player on the opposite line. Passing player has to touch behind the line before he/she is allowed to start defending. The player receiving the ball has to try and run the ball, under control, across the back line.

COACHING POINTS

  • Attacking players should try and run as fast as possible (loose dribbling) to be as close as possible to the defender when he/she touches the line.
  • Also the attacking player should look to try and run in the opposite direction to the defender.
