Cricket: Group coaching for the back foot drive

DESCRIPTION

Set up the practice as shown in the diagram. Make sure that the bowler feeds the ball in over arm and gets the ball to bounce to waist height.

The Batsman then plays a back foot drive and tries to aim to hit the ball through the cones.

COACHING POINTS

  • High backlift over off stump with dominant top hand. Bottom hand fingers and thumb grip.
  • Step back and across the crease, getting head and body into line with the ball (eyes level).
  • Weight on back foot, which lands parallel to crease (head left forward of the body).
  • With dominant top hand and diamond shape formed with arms, swing bat through the line of the ball. (Forearms passing close to body.)
  • Strike ball forward of body, directly below eye level.
  • Keep leading elbow high, throughout the shot. Top hand dominates throughout the shot, bottom hand assists on impact. (Bottom hand fingers and thumb grip.)
  • Finish the shot with high hands, with toe of bat pointing towards target area.Hold position of body for two seconds to show that you are balanced.
