Players Now Have To Tackle Low To Be Safe & Legal

Here are a few more tips & ideas to help you coach the tackle, use these resources and adapt them to your sessions and players to get the best out of them. The "Sausage Bag" drill forces players to work on all of the "Pre tackle" skills.


Try Something Different To Challenge Your Players

Coaches must decide on what works for their squad, some players learn quicker than others, while some prefer simpler tasks.

There are no right or wrong ways and we reccomend you adapt your sessions using the resources avaialble to you.

This practice is slighlty different but forces players to use good body positions prior to completing a tackle. You can focus on footwork, height, head position, the grip, the chase it's your choice!


Develop The Confidence In Players To Tackle Legally & Safely

This coaching clip is from last season but is probably more important now than it was one year ago.

These techniques can be used from young players learning to tackle right up to seniors and it’s a great exercise to progress from quickly with more competent players.

Great tip in this clip about using tennis balls, socks or cones to prevent players trying to tackle with their hands.
