Coaching 7s for skills and fitness

The growth in 7s has been significant over the last few years - with festivals and events in the spring and summer cycles of the season.

7s is a terrific program for developing core skills such as handling, footwork and evasion, attacking space, effective defensive systems, speed and agility training.

7s is a very different sport to the XV a side game - yet is has many crossovers. Primarily 7s is a much faster version of the game consisting of all the core skills you would want to see in the modern XVs game. However at the elite end of the game 7s is so specialised now that the specific requirements for 7s are difficult to transfer across to the XVs game.

At the amateur end of the spectrum, a 7s season reduces the rest time for XV aside players, and often can lead to over-training issues and fatigue problems so make sure you manage your players responsibly!

Top 7s coaches within the 7s circuits are often the most innovative of coaches - developing skill practices and conditioning games that are focused and challenging on many levels. Take a look below!
