Soccer: Corner Delivery

Set pieces need to be made the most of in a match. This plan will make those corners count, and improve the communication between your players

Again, the signal made between player and corner taker before the ball is played into the box.

A player should be on the front post, with three attackers making runs into the area between the back post and the six-yard line. They should attack the goal by heading, or look for an alternative player.

Again, a player at back end of 18-yard area gives initial signal for type of corner to be taken (one hand or two hands up for example), which is then relayed to the rest of the team.

With the rest of the team in different positions and roles, the player who gave the signal should be able to run into space at the front post. They then receive the ball from the corner taker and takes a shot.

Set up as shown.

Player 1 starts with the ball in the middle of the field and plays a 1-2 pass with player 2 before passing out wide to player 3.

At this point, players 1 and 2 run towards the penalty area, ready to receive a cross, while one of the defenders goes out wide to put pressure on the crosser.

Player 3 will cross the ball into the box where players 1 and 2 will try to beat the defender to it and score.

Their team-mates in the box should have different roles, depending on their position. The player who gave the signal should run to receive the ball from corner taker, and runs with it before shooting or passing.
