Improve your Coaching with Innovative Thinking
This week we wanted to, not only share with you a great session from one of our members, but also, highlight some innovative thinking that can really help when planning your coaching.
When many of us coach we are limited by space and time. In planning our session we think about the goals and outcomes of the session, the drills to achieve these outcomes and the equipment we need.
We must also consider the flow of the session.
How will we progress from one exercise to the next?
How will we organise the pitch?
How will we occupy the players between exercises?
In an ideal world we would have unlimited pitch space, so we can lay out all cones prior to the session and move seamlessly from drill to drill. But this is a rare luxury.
Re-usable Cones
In this week's session of the week Neil, from East Grinstead, told us how he devised this session to work with young players on a busy pitch. He only had limited room to coach and due to the age of the players and other actvities on the pitch didn't wish to send them running or leave them unattended between drills. This innovative session progresses from warm up through to passing and skill drills, all suitable for improving skills of players at all levels. All with only one set-up of cones.
Try these drills with juniors or as a way to quickly progress through close quarters skills in a pre-match warm-up.
How do I save Sessions of the Week?
Some of you have been asking how you save sessions of the week, please see new online tutorial
