
Pressure, Cover, Balance
Duration: 15 minutes Set Up: Area will be approx. 30mx30m 12 cones 3 sets of cones on each end to make 3 nets about 1.5m wide 8 players in two teams 3 players in the middle and 1 on each end behind a net. 1 ball Note: Before beginning the skill, ensure the Pressure, Cover, Balance demo has been previously done Defender closest to the attacker with the ball pressures attacker. Ensure correct jockeying technique The other 2 defenders will provide cover/balance for the pressure playerIf the middle defender is Pressure, the other 2 defenders are at a 45 degree angle and 5-10 metres away, behind and beside the attacker. If one of the end defenders, middle defender is at 45 degree angle and 5-10 metres away. Far defender (Balance) is at about 22 degree angle from the middle defender Pressure player is only focused on the player with the ball Cover player watches Pressure player and looks for opposing players Balance player watch Cover player and opposing team. Instructions: One team will start with ball and attempt to pass to their player behind the net The other team is defending with Pressure, Cover, Balance (taught in another drill) If the ball is won, they become the attacking team Attacking team will make minimum 4 passes before attempting to score When a goal is made, the "goaltender" switches with the player who made the scoring pass and that player becomes "goaltender" Skills: Defending Movement Control Coaching Hints: Encourage the Pressure, Cover, Balance Use terms like "I got ball" or "support"
