DESCRIPTION

Gate Dribble is fun game to improve dribbling, defense, communication and teamwork. The game can be played with any number of students. The rules are as follows: One team will be defense and one team offense. The each defender will stand between two markers placed on the court and slide back and forth trying to prevent the offensive player from passing through their "gate". The offense will dribble through as many "gates" as they can without letting the defender hit their ball. If the defender hits the offensive players ball, offensive player must go to the opposite end of the court, make a shot, and return. Each time the offensive player passes through a "gate" their team gets a point. After 1 minute offense and defense switch. The team with the most points at the end is the winner

COACHING POINTS

Encourage communication by making offense yell out their point each time they score. If the coach doesn't hear them yell, the point doesn't count. Encourage teamwork by letting the teams hudle up and discuss strategy before it is their turn. Modify the rules depending on skill level. For lower skill level have the defense put their hands behind their backs and only play defense by sliing in front. Make the distance in between the cones bigger or smaller depending on skill level. Vary the penalty if the offensive players ball gets hit by the defense. Maybe pushups, agility ladder, layups, or go to the sidelines and demonstrate the skill they have been working on to the coach.
